2021.12.03 13:25 dilllwt On the water post: Force application for different boats

Tl;dr: How have you been taught the drive phase in different boats? E.g., 8+, 4+, 4-, 2-, 1x etc
At my current club we mainly row in 8+. However, lately we've done a few sessions in smaller boats. The squad come from lots of different backgrounds, some schoolboys, some club, mostly uni rowers. We are all mainly from the UK but there are some internationals too. It seems to me that the application of force in the 8+ seems to be taught in a fairly consistent way since everyone seems to be more or less on the same page despite the differences. For an 8+ everyone agrees, frontloaded, most force comes from the leg drive, and should be applied in the first half of the stroke.
In smaller boats though, everyone seems to have a different idea on what makes the boat move best. 4+ isn't too far off the 8+, but as soon as people go coxless people seem to have been taught a drive phase that's more focussed on peak force midway through the stroke, or even approaching the finish.
Does rowing have a consensus? How have you been taught for different boats?
I personally favour a frontloaded stroke regardless of the boat size, provided the crew is able to get connected at the catch. I was thinking maybe it is taught differently in smaller boats because this requires more finesse? What do you think?

2021.12.03 13:25 Slaiyn Stuttering when animations play for the first time when loading scenes with change_scene()

In a recent game jam I created my very first game with Godot and many things worked out brilliantly considering. There is just one element of Godot I just haven't been able to wrap my head around and that is scene loading.
In the game we have a boss scene level containing an instance of our boss enemy. The boss enemy has an AnimatedSprite with several high res animations. When transitioning to the boss scene level we use the get_tree().change_scene() call.
My problem was that there was a stutter for several frames the first time any animation played. This led me to believe that some parts were loaded from the hard drive dynamically when the scene is already running.
We did the following in the _ready function to 'solve' this problem: scale the boss way down to 1 pixel, move it towards the player's starting position and play all the AnimatedSprite's animations back to back. Then move the boss to its actual location.
This removed the stutter but can't be the canonic way of doing this, can it?
My question is if anyone can guide me to a proper tutorial to recursively loading scenes. I've checked out the godot docs but they don't seem to touch on this.
I've also noticed that these lags occur when the active camera gets close to the nodes for the first time. If someone could also guide me to an explanation of when exactly Nodes are loaded that would be awesome.

2021.12.03 13:25 oracle-from-nomaha Open Interview/AMA Questions for Daniel, Byron, Team

All,
I view what we are doing with research similar to the old school analysis for traditional stocks. While I understand the team is very busy and hard at work on their project, I think it would be beneficial to pose questions to help us learn more about the investment we have made. A large portion of the crypto space is opaque, I hope that as crypto matures, the projects will mature in their communication to their investors and potential investors. Afterall, one goal for crypto was to level the playing field; let the little guys have a chance and a piece of the pie. I fully understand there may be some information which cannot be divulged, at the end of the day there are ways to provide a piece of mind and show one’s commitment to their project – which will help solidify an investors decision to support a project during times of volatility.
I’d like to gather a list of AMA/interview questions we can pose to Daniel, Byron and the LRC team. Please comment with your questions and I’ll update the post to include the best questions for the community.
Daniel, Byron or team, please post and let us know if you’d participate in this effort. We all believe in this project and thank you for your efforts.
Questions:
In general, what excites you about the NFT space?
Do you see LRC playing a role in the metaverse?
In general, what excites you about the metaverse space?
Generally, do you feel a strong strategic partner is necessary to complete in the NFT and metaverse space?
Will LRC complete with the likes of Meta (Facebook) in the metaverse?
How has the level of community embrace and growth impacted you?
How are the ramps coming?
Are you on track to deliver an announcement of partnership or progress before the end of 2021?
